REBOOT - The Rapid American Decline

This is a living book that starts billions of years ago but is also rooted in real time with real people. This is life and death action entwined with todays events but bold enough to reveal a future you should really be worried about. If you don't believe your very existence is on the line within the next eight years, think again. Every day, it gets easier for anyone to kill everyone, WMD is coming to a location close to you! I mingle fictional characters and horribly believable scenarios with real people and events.

Let us get started, not in the beginning but instead part way through. Experience a really bad episode with the final flight of the F111 in Australia. Then we will go on to some nasty ground and air action in Afganistan. After that we jump back 250 million years. Confused, you should be. Real life is like that, lots of characters and infinite varaibility.

de Havilland Mosquito de Havilland Mosquito - awesome video
You will notice one of the chapters below details the exploits of a de Havilland Mosquito in WWII This is a video of the 'new build' Mosquito at Ardmore in New Zealand flown by Keith Skilling and Dave Philips. Last chance for us to see her in action is at Wings Over Wairarapa on the 21st of January 2013

Be in quick because this is likely to be your final opportunity to see the Mosquito in action before it's shipped back to North America

Military thriller
I couldn't put it down. I read it in three days.

I have a "vast "collection of military thrillers, including DeMercurio, Clancy, Dale Brown, David Poyer, Steve Coonts, Larry Bond and Gordon Kent, and of course the two recent excellent books by John Birmingham. I honestly consider your writing equal to them all, and your research, illustrations and story weaving excellent.
Stephen Taylor. Cabarita NSW

"Plowright’s military thriller builds unbearable tension, placing unlikely heroes like the Defence Force’s Brian and Lance Hamilton, at the epicentre of a mounting crisis that, after a combination of totally unexpected events, threatens to destroy the planet." Lt. Col. (Ret)  Richard Humby.

"The best Australian military techno thriller I have ever read.  Up there with Brown and Clancy."

Senior Australian Defence Analyst.

"The best Australian military tWas great reading, I couldn't pull my self away from it, often reading from 6pm (straight after work) till 4-4:30am the next morning! I have always enjoyed Tom Clancy's series and have found your storyline to be as good if not better, The action kept flowing continually! Peter Cheel

Couldn’t put it down. Read it in less than 12 hours. Maybe I read it too fast …Best book since Red October (and probably better) Peter Walshe

I've read all of Tom Clancy's and Larry Bond's books and happily rate 'Point of Impact' right up there with their work. It's so refreshing to have more original ideas being published with strong lead characters like the Hamilton brothers. Ryan Kennedy

Really liked the story line and thought the situation created was very possible. I thoroughly enjoyed the read - equal to most famous novelists I have read. Richard Cram.

ADDITIONAL NOTES AND READING

Shotgun One
Synopsis

A military thriller. Vostok Station, the coldest recorded place on earth, a  Russian research facility deep in the Antarctic interior that sits on a dome of ice over 12,000 feet deep. A place unique not just because of record cold temperatures but because of what lies beneath the ice, Lake Vostok, a fluid mass larger than Lake Ontario, nearly 2000 feet deep. Renegade Russian and Chinese scientists drill through the ice into the lake, discovering a secret that has been trapped there for millions of years.
Compressed by trillions of tons of ice, the lake water is saturated in oxygen and explosive natural gasses. When exposed to low atmospheres, the water instantly boils into gas. Beneath that mix, the earths crust, stretched by the huge mass of  lake and ice, has laid bare the world's largest oil and gas reserve, held in check only by the weight above.
The discovery begins a chain of events that spiral into the biggest massing of military forces seen since the Second World War. And then the unthinkable happens. A blinding flash of light and an enormous electro magnetic pulse rips out from the northeast end of the lake, sealing off Vostok from the rest of the world.
The Russians and Chinese blame the U.S. This creates the stage for a military confrontation to claim the ice. Amidst this, two brothers, Brian and Lance Hamilton find themselves dragged into the unfolding nightmare.
Colonel Brian Hamilton caught in the electro magnetic pulse, then witnesses the annihilation of the Vostok research station from a cruise missile strike and the ignition of the wellhead that begins a count down to dooms day. His escape from the ice centre and pursuing military Spetznaz forces enables him to warn the coalition of the approaching Armageddon.
With the entire Antarctic sealed off to the Australian and US forces, it is up to Squadron Leader Lance Hamilton to devise a strategy that will get him and his Pig, the venerable F111, close enough to extinguish the flame.  The burning well head quickly creates a hole over four hundred meters wide which rapidly sinks towards the lake of oil and gas below.

"Within 72 hours, the ice will blow out and the lake will explode. Within minutes, the entire ice dome, over a thousand square kilometres of ice, 5000 feet thick, will collapse, throwing the contents of the lake tens of thousands of meters in the air. This is an extinction event. We will all either burn, suffocate, be killed by the resulting shockwave or drown in the biggest tsunami the earth has experienced since the last big meteor wiped out the dinosaurs. We have 72 hours to put the flame out or we are all very dead!"  Dr. Alexander Blake, RosenBridge Foundation.

In a growing conflict and war that debuts weaponry never utilized in battle before, the Russians, Chinese, Australian and US forces, punch it out on the ice and Southern Ocean, each believing they are fighting the just cause. But for all of them, the ticking bomb at the end of the Earth threatens the extinction of all life. Brian and Lance Hamilton find themselves flung together in a desperate last minute attempt to avert a catastrophe of biblical proportions.
